Development of gender responsive pedagogy training module and materials
The assignment aimed to develop and adapt a context-specific 40-hour GRP Training Module comprising 10 interlinked modules. The training package was designed to strengthen the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of trainers, instructors, and programme staff to apply gender-responsive, inclusive, safe, and rights-based approaches in TVET teaching and learning.
This Final Project Completion Report presents the successful completion of the consultancy assignment undertaken by R & D Consulting Limited (RDCL) for UCEP Bangladesh under the Gender-Responsive and Inclusive Vocational Education and Training (GRIVET) Project, funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC). The assignment focused on the development and adaptation of a 40-hour Gender-Responsive Pedagogy (GRP) Training Module and Materials under Ref. Activity 1311.1. RDCL developed a practical and inclusive 10-module training package, structured for delivery over five training days, to strengthen the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and facilitation competencies of UCEP trainers, instructors, teachers, and relevant programme personnel. The package promotes safe, equitable, inclusive, and gender-responsive learning environments across TVET institutions. The assignment followed a participatory process involving review of existing materials, gap analysis, content mapping, framework development, technical consultation, validation, revision, and finalization. The modules cover key areas including gender concepts and equality, gender-responsive TVET, inclusive learning environments, pedagogy and lesson planning, practical skills training, assessment, technology, safeguarding and sexual harassment prevention, GBV, communication, and gender-responsive leadership. To ensure practical application, the training package incorporates participatory methods such as group discussions, case studies, role plays, classroom gender audits, problem-tree analysis, micro-teaching, lesson-plan development, scenario-based exercises, assessment reviews, and practical group tasks. Detailed session plans, facilitation guidance, PowerPoint presentations, exercises, and training aids were also developed to support effective implementation. As part of the assignment, RDCL conducted a three-day Training of Trainers (ToT) for relevant UCEP personnel. The ToT enabled participants to familiarize themselves with the modules, practice facilitation techniques, participate in practical exercises, and strengthen their capacity to apply gender-responsive approaches in TVET settings. The assignment was completed with the submission of all agreed deliverables, including the gap analysis and content framework, 10-module GRP Training Manual, detailed session plans, PowerPoint presentations and training aids, validation and revision inputs, ToT documentation, and the final consolidated training package. Overall, the consultancy successfully established a contextually relevant and practical Gender-Responsive Pedagogy training package to support UCEP Bangladesh in institutionalizing gender-responsive and inclusive teaching practices. The materials provide trainers and instructors with practical tools to address gender barriers, promote equitable participation, create safe and inclusive learning environments, prevent and appropriately respond to harassment and GBV, and integrate gender equality into teaching, assessment, communication, and institutional practices. The assignment contributes to the broader objectives of the GRIVET Project by strengthening a gender-responsive and inclusive TVET ecosystem in Bangladesh and supporting the participation of girls, women, persons with disabilities, LGBTQI+ individuals, ethnic minorities, and other marginalized learners in safe, equitable, respectful, and empowering learning environments.
